Analogue has announced its reimagined N64 console, the Analogue 3D, will release in Q1 2025 for a price of $249.99. The retro hardware company made a name for itself selling modern versions of old classics like the Game Boy Color and SNES. Now, fans of the N64 will be able to bring their old favorites back to life before long, although not quite as soon as initially expected.

While the Analogue 3D may be the first 4K-capable remake of the N64, it joins a surge of recent releases aimed at nostalgic fans. In 2021, Nintendo announced the arrival of N64 titles on the Switch Online service. More recently, a gamer built their own portable N64 as emulation on the Steam Deck and iPhones bring retro handhelds back into fashion. Modern tech may be exciting, but it's hard to overlook the joy of reliving the old days, and companies like Analogue and 8BitDo seem to know that full well.

The Analogue Pocket Should Have a Digital Storefront

The Analogue Pocket may be the perfect retro gaming console right now, but apart from cartridges, running digital games may be necessary.

In October 2023, Analogue teased the 3D's release, saying it would be available sometime in 2024. Almost exactly one year later, the 2024 date is no more, but the company did provide additional details via a Twitter post, including its official price tag and a closer look at its specs. While the updated release timeline is still uncertain beyond being in early 2025, the manufacturer is far from idle. In addition to the news about the upcoming N64 clone, Analogue released a limited-edition Pocket featuring new colors.

The official Analogue account linked to a new product page on its website. As the company said back in 2023, the Analogue 3D plays N64 titles in 4K, but the updated news comes with an impressive clarification. The console supports every single N64 game ever made. Like its previous devices, the 3D does this without emulation, instead opting for hardware compatible with old cartridges.

On top of supporting original N64 games, the Analogue 3D works with Nintendo's old controllers. Gamers won't need to dig up an original Memory Pak or Expansion Pak, though, as these features come built-in with the new hardware. Those who prefer not to move away from wired gamepads can also get an 8BitDo Bluetooth N64-inspired controller for an additional $39.99. 8BitDo has previously released N64 mod kits to give the older controllers wireless functionality, but this new option is a fresh design built specifically for the Analogue 3D.

The Analogue 3D Is Opening for Pre-Orders

Pre-orders for the console will open on October 21, 2024. While buyers won't know exactly when they'll get it, all orders come with the Analogue 3D itself, an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and a USB-C power supply. No controllers will ship with it, so gamers will either need to buy the new 8BitDo option alongside their console or dig up an old N64 gamepad to use with it.
