Pokemon Home Update Gives You Chance to Get Free Shiny Pokemon

Pokemon Home is offering its mobile app players the chance to add a free shiny Meloetta to their collection as a Mystery Gift, but they'll first have to complete the full Pokedex for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and all its DLC. This Pokemon Home offer is exclusive to the mobile version, and it sounds like more special Pokemon are on the way.

The Pokemon Company launched the app in February 2020. Using its cloud-based services, fans of the monster-catching franchise can use Pokemon Home to trade Pokemon with others or transfer them between their own saves in different games in the franchise, including the mobile AR game Pokemon GO. The app, which is available in both a Nintendo Switch version and a mobile version, is the successor to Pokemon Bank for the 3DS.

Pokemon Home Feature Would Make It Way More Convenient

A Pokemon Home user's idea could make the experience of using the program and transferring Pokemon from a Switch game way more convenient.

According to an in-app message, the offer of a shiny Meloetta is the first in a series of rare Pokemon rewards that will become available in Pokemon Home. Meloetta was first introduced to the franchise in Generation 5, and is one of the four Mythical Pokemon who made their debut in that timeframe, alongside Victini, Keldeo, and Genesect. In order to get a shiny Meloetta in Pokemon Home, players will have to fill up the app's Pokedex for the Paldea region in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and the Kitakami and Blueberry Academy additions from its Indigo Disk DLC, then transfer all of those Pokemon to Pokemon Home. The shiny version swaps Meloetta's hair from pale green to aqua and does the opposite for its eyes and forehead feature.

Pokemon Home Lets Players Get a Shiny Meloetta

While the process for getting this shiny Meloetta in Pokemon Home does seem like a grind for players who are just starting out, it also provides a reliable way for players to get their hands on one. Players can catch Meloetta in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk-exclusive Coastal Biome, but that process also takes a lot of steps, including spinning around, opening the camera, changing the filter to a sepia tone, and listening for its song. What's more, Meloetta is one of the few Pokemon in that pair of games that will never appear in its shiny form, making this Mystery Gift in Pokemon Home even more valuable.

This isn't the only rare version of a Mythical Pokemon that the app allows players to get their hands on. By completing the in-app National Pokedex up through entry 890, Eternatus, players can get a version of Magearna in its original color scheme in Pokemon Home. While the red, yellow, and white version of Magearna is generally regarded as the rarest Pokemon in the entire franchise, getting one requires an even greater task than the one that now gives players a shiny Meloetta.
