A known Pokemon leaker posted information on social media about a Pokemon spin-off game codenamed "Synapse," a multiplayer title developed by Game Freak and ILCA which draws inspiration from the Splatoon series. The leaker shared in-development screenshots of this Pokemon title, which included concept art and control schemes for the project's Switch version.

The information on the Synapse Pokemon project is part of the greater Pokemon "Teraleak" that is making the rounds on social media and is said to be among the largest leaks in the franchise's history. Earlier in October, a hacker shared beta footage of past mainline titles, such as Pokemon Black and White and Pokemon X and Y, which included some unfinished sprites for certain Pokemon. In addition, details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A were seemingly included in the Teraleak, as a social media user claimed that Zygarde and Zeraora would receive Mega Evolution forms in the upcoming Switch title.

While all leaked information must be taken with a grain of salt, a credible leaker shared information about a potential upcoming Pokemon project. According to Twitter user Centro Leaks, the Synapse project seemingly stemmed from another project dubbed "Rodeo" and was slated to be in development for both the Switch and mobile platforms. While the development status of Synapse remains unclear, the information posted by Centro Leaks claims that it is a multiplayer Pokemon title co-developed by Game Freak and ILCA. Screenshots of the Synapse project indicated that players would create avatars and be able to ride Pokemon such as Garchomp, Samurott, and Electivire. In addition to avatar customization options, players would be able to tame rampaging wild Pokemon by either throwing Poke Balls at them or by climbing on top of them and hanging on to calm them down.

More Pokemon Synapse Project Information Revealed

  • Project Synapse, AKA Rodeo, is reportedly an online co-op Pokemon title.
  • Inspired by Splatoon and other games, the ability to ride Pokemon is one of its main features.
  • Synapse is planned for Switch and mobile devices, but the project's status is unclear.
  • Screenshots and early footage have made the rounds on social media as part of the recent Teraleak.

The leak also stated that the Synapse project drew inspiration from the Splatoon series in that the player's riding Pokemon could be painted with markings using a Smeargle-shaped paint gun. The markings included basic shapes such as a star and a heart, along with different color options such as white and magenta. Centro Leaks went on to say that no information about Synapse's status is available but clarified that the Pokemon project may still be ongoing. Neither Game Freak nor ILCA have publicly commented about Synapse.

Though riding Pokemon is possible in games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the information obtained about the Synapse project would potentially take the popular concept even further. Only time will tell if Synapse or other unreleased Pokemon titles will ever see the light of day.
