Call of Duty 2025's Zombies mode could bring back the original squad from World at War, according to playtesters. While Activision has yet to release any official details on next year's installation of the shooter franchise, that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from turning. One of the most exciting potential updates is that 2025's Call of Duty will feature the OG Zombies team.
The original "Nazi Zombies" mode from 2008's World at War is still regarded as one of the best COD Zombies experiences in the series. While it didn't offer the same level of content and mechanics as newer titles, it was easy to pick up and dripping in atmosphere. Whether all the elements from the game will return and to what extent is still unclear, but new rumors suggest Call of Duty could be playing the nostalgia card for its next installation.

These Call of Duty Zombies Posts From 2008 Are a Huge Blast of Nostalgia
With developer Treyarch about to introduce players into a new Zombies world, Call of Duty fans are looking back at what started it all.
An article from Inside Gaming first broke the news, citing inside sources who playtested the 2025 Call of Duty's Zombies mode. The publication says "several" of these insiders backed up the claim, though details beyond that remain scarce. Dempsey, Tank, Takeo, and Nikola, who remained the core of the Zombies group for several games in the franchise, will all supposedly make an appearance. However, they could be versions of the characters players haven't seen yet. One source said they looked older than their Primis versions but weren't the original Ultimis, either.
The return of the OG Zombies characters would make sense in light of other rumors. Early reports suggest that COD 2025will be a sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which also featured the core four. However, they were only in it briefly. Most of the Zombies mode in Black Ops 2 followed a different team. It's unclear whether 2025's take on the series will be a similar case or if it'll take a different approach altogether.
Hype Around Call of Duty 2025 Is High
Regardless of how the Zombies mode works or who it follows, the hype around 2025's Call of Duty release is undeniable. The recent release of Black Ops 6 reinvigorated the series, winning fans back after Modern Warfare 3's somewhat disappointing release. Rumors about a return to the fan-favorite second Black Ops title could take that excitement to new heights.
For now, most, if not all, information about the upcoming sequel is little more than speculation. There are rumors that Call of Duty 2025 will feature wall-jumping and more, but at the end of the day, they're just that, rumors. Gamers will have to wait and see what next year's COD entails.
