Platypus, a classic Xbox 360 shoot 'em up from days past, is getting a full remake for modern platforms called Platypus Reclayed. Though the original game debuted on PC in the early 2000s, it was then brought to consoles, including the Xbox 360. Platypus Reclayed is developed by Claymatic Games and is set for release sometime in 2025.

The original Platypus was first launched only on PC in 2002 as a side-scrolling shoot 'em up developed by Squashy Software and published by Idigicon. It became a PSP exclusive in 2006 until it was finally released on Xbox 360 in 2009 through Xbox Live Indie Games. A sequel named Platypus 2 was also released in 2007. Although shoot 'em up games remain popular, the Platypus series did not seem to endure the passage of time as well as other franchises. Fortunately for nostalgic players, the game is being reanimated for several modern platforms.

Claymatic Games has revealed the official trailer for Platypus Reclayed, a remake of the classic Platypus coming to PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The remaster is being led by original Platypus designer and creator Anthony Flack. "22 years after its first appearance, the iconic Platypus is coming back, featuring updated gameplay, new weapons, and additional content," reads an official description of Platypus Reclayed. While the Xbox 360 store was shut down earlier this year, memorable Xbox 360 games have made a comeback, and now Platypus joins the list.

Platypus Reclayed Announced for 2025

In Platypus Reclayed, players enter Collosatropolis, a once-prosperous city that is now dominated by pollution. To escape from its decay, citizens look to the neighboring city of Mungola for expansion. Players take on the role of F-27 "Platypus", a squadron of fighter planes that are Collosatropolis' last line of defense in Mungola. Platypus Reclayed offers fans 4K widescreen and can be played either solo or in co-op. Both shared and split screen options are available. According to Claymatic, the remake was reprogrammed from scratch to adapt to modern hardware. Considering that Xbox 360 consoles occasionally face performance problems, an updated version might be more convenient for fans. Platypus Reclayed is confirmed for release in 2025 and players can already add it to their Steam Wishlist.

Many players still consider the Xbox 360 the winner of the seventh-generation console wars. Despite the shutting down of its marketplace, some fans still keep their Xbox 360 units, either for nostalgia or as a collector's item. Like Platypus, other Xbox 360 titles have received remasters, such as Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned.
